Six years ago, I was a lost teenager. I spent all my wake time playing video games. I was doing very poorly in school, had next to no social life and felt like I was so lost.
So when I told people around me that I was going to try to change my life by exercising and going to the gym, it was no surprise that people doubted me.
“Are YOU gonna start going to the gym?”
“Ah.. okay, good luck with that, just know it can be hard. Don’t beat yourself up if it’s too hard.”
But others weren’t the only one doubting me, I was doubting myself everyday.
“This is too hard, I can’t do it.”
“How do I even become healthy?”
“I don’t think I have the genetics to get in shape.”
But to my own and others surprise, I actually managed to get myself to the gym pretty consistently. However, I was still very far from shape, and that became evident.
I remember one time at the gym, some guys actually pointed at me mockingly, probably because I was very out of shape.
No, that’s not a made up story for sympathy, that actually happened.
However, I didn’t let that faze me and I continued to grind.
Fast forward years down the line, and I am noticeably making a great difference in my life physique and strength wise.
I decided to start posting some gym content on social media such as youtube, instagram and tiktok.
I was then met with the same doubts and discouragement as when I actually started going to the gym, people made fun off me posting content on social media behind my back.
Fast forward another few years down the line, and I stuck with my content creation even though I was sometimes mocked, and my physique and strength had evolved to new heights. I now had what most people would call a respectable physique.
People that doubted and mocked me for starting my fitness journey and social media content now hit me up asking for advice.
Moral of the story is, starting out is never easy, in fact it’s very tough. But you can’t let that shit get to you man! The people doubting and hating on you are almost always coming from your own position or below.
You don’t see millionaires making fun of people starting their first business.
You don’t see jacked guys making fun of people starting to workout.
Stick to your grind and purpose even when it gets tough, and take pride in that shit. If it was easy everyone would do it. If it was easy, everyone on the street would have a six pack and drive in lambos.
Six years has passed, and I am no longer a lost teenager. I am a confident and healthy adult.
It didn’t come for free though, you always gotta put in the hard work.
